Sketch of a Proboscis Monkey I did just before falling asleep in bed last night. I frequently get asked if I do prep sketches for my ink drawings: not always but often! Here you can see the initial soft gestural Colorase pencil sketch which I put under a fresh sheet of paper to do the Pentel Aquash ink sketch. This is not a necessary step but I find it actually makes the finished product more gestural since I can be quite expressive in the pencil sketch and work out the overall shape before committing to ink. #jawcooper #colorasepencil #pentelaquash #monkey #proboscislyfe #tipsandtricks

Took me an hour to hone in on the concept for this one (see copious notes to self in drawing's margins), but it will be titled "Poison" and if all goes well the smoke coming out of the toads mouth and the nails in the cat's back will be metallic gold or gold leaf.
