Drawing printed at size, cut in half, and then transferred to the Moleskine one page at a time with a light box and graphite. Notice how rough and soft my mark making is while transferring with a light box - it's hard to see your marks while doing it so don't commit to any lines until after its transferred. Sketching toolkit! If I have to travel light I just bring some Colorase pencils in Carmine Red, the Pentel Aquash, Pentel Color Brush in Grey, Pentel Bold Point Brush Pen, and the Kuratake Brush Pen. Make up bags and dopp kits make great pencil/pen bags since they are often lined with something waterproof in case something leaks. I also like plastic hard cases since you can see all the tools and it protects them from being squeezed in your bag and then leaking. If I'm going to a museum I'll bring a folding stool as well as a clip-on book light (shown center) so that I can see my sketch without bothering other patrons. #jawcooper #tools #tipsandtricks #pens #pencils #sketchingkit

As suggested by the lovely and talented @tfail here is a shot of my portable gouache painting kit. I designed and constructed the cardboard caddy myself. The left dish is for mixing and the right flower-shaped porcelain dish is for keeping the colors in my pallet separated. Between them is a little water jar with a screw on lid. I keep my paints separated my hue and in little snack-zip-lock bags. My tape is artists tape and I suggest using a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive when removing it from the paper for a cleaner edge without damaging the paper. An eye dropper is helpful for adding more water to your mixed color than a brush can, especially when working in thinner washes. Carry a small water spritzer bottle with you to refresh your pallet and keep the paints from drying out. Porcelain is fragile but keeps the paints wet longer because it stays so cool and is far easier to clean than plastic.
